THUNDERIN’ PAST
(Click picture to enlarge)
The roots of NASCAR. This photo was taken in 1953 at a dirt track in Morrow, Ga. where the Sam’s Club on Jonesboro Road now stands. My father is driving the orange and white #9 car. The picture was originally a black and white glossy taken by his friend Tom Aldred, a photographer for the Atlanta Journal. Daddy colorized it by hand in the 1960s. A unique photograph, it now hangs proudly in a prominent place in my studio.
