The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in dealerships on September 29, 1966 and would last up through the 1969 year. A complete body change came in 1970.  Almost all of 1967-1969 Camaros were built in two U.S. assembly plants, Norwood, Ohio and Van Nuys, California.  The 1969 Camaro was chosen as the Official Pace Car for the 1969 running of the Indianapolis 500.  To help them stand out on the large expanse of track, the 1969 pace cars were designed to be visible: White RS/SS convertibles with orange panel stripes and orange houndstooth cloth seats.  These cars are highly collectible today.
